Amagi’s Blessings: Forest to Table

In Amagi, life flows with water. Springs from Mount Amagi nourish forests, feed wasabi fields, and flow into Suruga Bay. Locals live in rhythm with this cycle, harvesting wasabi, fishing, and cooking with spring-fed water. On this journey, you’ll follow water’s path from mountain to sea by walking forest trails, meeting local producers, and joining hands-on experiences. Discover how one source connects food, craft, and tradition in a living, sustainable cycle.

Model Plan (3 Days 2 Nights)

Journey into the heart of Izu to discover the vibrant world of wasabi. From ancient forest trails and misty fields to fresh coastal catches and local food traditions, this three-day trip invites you to walk, harvest, fish, cook, and taste your way through one of Japan’s most distinct culinary regions.

Day 1

Start at Amagi Kaikan and begin your trip with a walk along the historic Amagi Kaido Trail. Surrounded by dense forest and clear air, the trail offers both movement and quiet moments.

Next, visit local wasabi fields to harvest fresh wasabi and take part in a hands-on “100m Kitchen” session where you’ll prepare wasabi rice using what you just picked.

The day ends with a warm dinner featuring your freshly made wasabi rice.

Day 2

After breakfast and check-out, head out to Suruga Bay for a guided fishing experience. Learn from locals, cast your line, and enjoy the rhythm of the open water.

For lunch, enjoy seasonal seafood caught in the bay. In the afternoon, take part in a shiokatsuo (salted bonito) workshop and discover one of Japan’s oldest preservation methods.

Dinner is a full-course meal designed to highlight the unique textures and flavors of wasabi through thoughtful pairings and local ingredients.

Day 3

After breakfast and a slow morning, return to Amagi Kaikan to wrap up the trip. You’ll leave with a new appreciation for wasabi, its culture, and the land that brings it to life.
